Scrumptious South Africa: Ricotta-And-Parsley-Filled Paccheri …

août 30th, 2010 by marware

The defining deliciousness of this sunny baked pasta dish comes from a sauce made from just a few ingredients: burstingly ripe cherry tomatoes cooked to a stickiness in hot butter, then lightly mashed with a whisper of garlic, a few shredded fresh sage leaves and a splash of cream.

The sauce issimplicity itself, but the pastapart of this dish - big tubes stuffed with a mixture of ricotta, parsley, egg and nutmeg - is a bit fiddly to make, and will take you a good half-hour to prepare.

If you’re up to spending that much time stuffing a pasta tube, and you think life is long enough to do so, put on some good music and pour yourself a glass of wine. If you don’t have the time to spare, make the sauce - in double the quantity - tip it over a bowl of freshly cookedfettuccine, and top with fresh rocket and grated Parmesan.

I devised this dish because my family are getting a bit sick of the old pasta standbyes, namely spag bol, pasta-and-pesto and fettuccineAlfredo. It’s very similar to that classic Italian dish of cannelloni filled with ricotta and spinach, except that I used paccheri - large, hollow pasta tubes - instead of cannelloni, and parsley instead of spinach.

I am a great fan of flat-leaf parsley, and think it deserves to be treated as an actual vegetable, rather than a last-minute garnishing flourish, or as a humdrum stock ingredient.

You might think it odd that the uncooked pasta tubes are placed upright in the dish before they’re baked, but I’ve done so to prevent the filling from squidging out while the dish sits, soaking in a cup of water, for an hour before baking.

If you can’t find big pasta tubes, use cannelloni instead. And, as always, please use the best ingredients: really ripe, sweet cherry tomatoes, fresh garlic, crisp parsley and good butter.

Ricotta & Parsley Filled Paccheri with a Tomato Butter Sauce

1 bag (500 g) paccheri, or giant pasta tubes

For the stuffing:

2 T (30 ml) oil

1 T (15 ml) butter

1 medium onion, peeled and very finely chopped

1 cup (250 ml) finely chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley (about 70 g)

1 T (15 ml) fresh lemon juice

400 g ricotta cheese, crumbled

2 medium eggs

quarter of a whole nutmeg, finely grated

flaky sea salt

milled black pepper

about 4 T (60 ml) pouring cream

1 cup (250 ml) hot water

For the sauce:

800 g ripe cherry tomatoes

80 g butter

1 T (15 ml) olive oil

2 cloves fresh garlic, peeled and finely chopped

6 sage leaves, finely shredded

4 T (60 ml) pouring cream

flaky sea salt

milled black pepper

To top:

cup (125 ml) grated Parmesan

First make the stuffing. Heat the oil and butter in a frying pan, and add the finely chopped onion. Fry, over a medium heat, for three minutes or so, or until the onion has softened, and is beginning to turn golden. Do not allow to brown. Turn down the heat, add the chopped parsley, stir well so that it is coated, and cook very gently for another minute. Remove from the heat and tip the mixture into a bowl. Add the lemon juice, ricotta, eggs and nutmeg, and stir well to combine. Season with salt and pepper. Now add just enough cream to turn the mixture into a slack paste that can be easily squeezed through a piping bag.

Generously butter a deep ceramic or glass baking dish big enough to hold all the pasta tubes upright (note: the pictures in this blog were made with a half-quantity of this recipe, so you’ll need a dish double the size). Put the filling into a piping bag fitted with a medium nozzle, and squeeze a little filling into each pasta tube. The best way to do this is to place each tube upright on a chopping board, and to fill it from the top (no need to fill each tube to the brim: three-quarters full is fine). Place the filled tubes upright in the dish, leaning them against each other until the dish is full. If you run out of stuffing before the dish is full, put a few empty pasta tubes between the full ones so that the dish is fairly tightly packed. Pour a cup of hot water into a jug with a pouring nozzle, and trickle the water down the side of the ceramic dish, so that the bottoms of the tubes are standing in water. Set to one side while you make the sauce.

To make the sauce, cut a small slash in each cherry tomato. Heat the butter and olive oil in a large, flat pan. When the butter stops foaming, add the tomatoes and cook, over a brisk heat, tossing often, for 7 to 10 minutes, or until the tomatoes begin to brown and a sticky golden residue forms on the bottom of the pan. Add the garlic and shredded sage, and use a potato masher to lightly crush the tomatoes and release the juices. Turn down the heat and simmer very gently for another 10 minutes, crushing down on the tomatoes now and again, until you have a thick, chunky sauce. Stir in the cream and season to taste with salt and pepper.

Remove the sauce from the heat and pour it evenly over the top of the pasta tubes, without stirring. Give the dish a gentle shake, cover with clingfilm [saran wrap] and allow to stand for an hour.

In the meantime, heat the oven to 170C. Remove the clingfilm from the dish and sprinkle the grated Parmesan evenly over the top. Place in the oven and bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the pasta is cooked through, and the sauce is bubbling vigorously.

Serve with fresh rocket or mixed greens.

Serves 8.

Peter Lenz | Zt Information Right This Moment

Peter Lenz : INDIANAPOLIS a motorcycle racer 13-years, died Sunday after falling off his bike and got run over by another bike at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Peter Lenz, Vancouver, Wash., was pronounced dead by the coroner of Marion County, after having suffered traumatic injuries. the accomplished rider teen crashed into a tower of warming up before the race and was hit by 12-year-old Xavier Zayat, who was uninjured in the accident.

Medical workers immediately placed Lenz in a neck brace, put on a stretcher and began chest compressions while taking him to a hospital. the coroner has confirmed his death about three hours later, the first on the circuit since the IndyCar Tony Renna was killed in October 2003.

Peter died early this morning when he was apparently hit by another rider, he said Sunday on a Facebook page display of Lenz, who was signed Dad.

He went about doing what he loved and had to move fast on his face as he pulled on the right track, said the posting. The world has lost one of its brightest lights today. God Bless Peter and the other rider involved. 45 is another road we can not hope to achieve. Miss you kiddo.

Lenz led the no. 45 bike. it was not immediately clear if the parents have been Lenz in Indianapolis and a home telephone number of the family has not been mentioned.

The accident delayed the start of the U.S. Grand Prix Racers Union in which Lenz was to begin, but three races sanctioned by the MotoGP series all started on time.

USGPRU spokesman Bill Syfan did not respond to interview requests from the Associated Press.

Despite his 13 years and listing his occupation on the site of the Grand Prix as small, Lenz was already a well known rider. He had been cycling for six years, has won nine national championships and nine regional titles, and appeared to be a rising star in a series that prides itself on being a preparation for riders 12 to 18 years hope to compete level.

These races are not usually held in conjunction with MotoGP events.

The fatal accident Sunday will almost certainly generate debate about how young is too young for the riders to compete on one of the most famous songs in the world, whether in a car or a motorcycle capable of speeds over 100 mph.

Speedway officials declined to comment on the issue, but stressed that the East Coast region riders also compete at Virginia International Raceway and Road America, while the West Coast Region holds races at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah and Portland International Raceway .

MotoGP Colin Edwards and Ben Spies has participated in even higher levels than boys. Edwards spent his first 250cc race at 17, while Spies made his first start in the series 125-12.

race conditions were not ideal this weekend.

Hot, dry goods Indianapolis Motor Speedway is dented, 2.621 mile course-slick track that was difficult for even the best drivers in the world.

Reigning world champion Valentino Rossi has fallen four times since the practice opened Friday, including a spill during a Sunday morning session of 20 minutes warming. Spies and points leader Jorge Lorenzo was also recognized after qualifying on Saturday that the track was difficult.

The race was shortened Moto2 Sunday after a big wreck took out four drivers in the first round. eight riders did not finish the race.

Lenz had three third place finishes for the season in the 125GP class and won three races in the class MD250H, who was the running race on Sunday.

Glenn Beck Rally Attendance | News

août 29th, 2010 by marware

Glenn Beck rally attendance estimates vary from 87,000 to 100,000. Beck had expected an attendance of 100,000 so he must be satisfied with the turnout. The main theme of the rally was to thank the US armed forces and to make America better by restoring its honor.

The venue could have accommodated nearly 300,000 but the Glenn beck rally attendance was far lower than the capacity. Varying claims about the attendance are circling in media but the credible sources have reported it below 100,000. Whatever was the exact number Glenn beck rally attendance was respectable enough to satisfy the conservatives.

According to Beck America has been terribly bad and good and American should learn from the bad things and repair its image. Beck had pledged the attendees not to bring political signs as he wanted to keep the event non-political. Beck was successful in that

context and the rally resembled a religious gathering rather than a political one. The rally took place at the same place where MLK (martin Luther King) had made his famous speech. Beck had chosen 28th august for the rally that marks the anniversary of the MLK speech and he was criticized for it. Beck however responded to the criticism by saying that it was just a coincidence.

Beck and Sara Palin spoke at the event. Becks speech was inspired by Obamas election campaign as he told the attendees the world can be changed by one man pointing to the crowd and that is you. Palin made a point by saying that she had come to the rally as the mother of a soldier.

8-28-10: Arizona Cardinals Chicken Droppings - Revenge Of The Birds

août 28th, 2010 by marware

Its gameday, and the real question for today is who will treat the 3rd game of the Preseason like its Bull****! Bull****!

Dennis Green Flips (via styles354)

Lets get to the links…

Preseason Game Three: Arizona Cardinals At Chicago Bears, 5:30 P.M. AZT - SB Nation Arizona
Let the controversy begin: Cardinals quarterback Derek Anderson gets the start against the Bears in the third preseason game. Is it the start of a QB battle in Arizona, or just another game?

Star-divide

Leinart talks about not starting
Quarterback Matt Leinart just talked about getting demoted behind Derek Anderson. Not surprisingly, he isnt happy, but he said he still planning on starting the regular-season opener:

Cardinals Apparently Demote Matt Leinart; Derek Anderson Will Start Against Bears - SBNation.com
Whisenhunt didn’t offer up much of an explanation for the apparent Leinart demotion except to say, “There is thought put into this. We are evaluating not only how Matt handles this but how other players handle it.”

Matt Leinart bristles at his benching | ProFootballTalk.com
On Thursday, the Cardinals unexpectedly (but hardly surprisingly) demoted Matt “Three and Out” Leinart for the team’s third preseason game. In his place, Derek “High and Outside” Anderson will start against the Bears.

The Arizona Cardinals will have a new starting quarterback on Saturday night in Chicago. Derek Anderson is replacing Matt Leinart, that much we know. The next question is why.

Matt Leinart met with reporters in Nashville this morning. I took an early flight to Chicago, and Leinart was nice enough to give me a call in Chicago. Here are a few of his comments:

What did Whisenhunt really say yesterday when he announced that Derek Anderson would be starting in place of Matt Leinart? He didn’t say he was changing the depth chart. He didn’t say that Leinart was done in Arizona, which seems to be the general reaction from the hyperbolic NFL talking heads. All he did was say that Leinart and Anderson were going to switch roles from the previous two preseason games.

Defending Leinart
Ive had enough of the negativity around our boy Matt. Ive heard enough of it from the media and by some people that call themselves Cardinals fans.

NFL.com Blogs ” Blog Archive Leinart: I have to let my play do the talking “
As you would imagine, Matt Leinart isnt happy about not starting Saturdays preseason game against the Chicago Bears. Despite his current demotion behind Derek Anderson, Leinart still plans on starting the regular-season opener.

Williamson has been down on Matt Leinart in Arizona for a long time. The Cardinals portion of our discussion began with this statement from Williamson on the quarterback situation: “I can’t think of a team right now that has it worse. Maybe Buffalo. Right now, it looks awful bleak from my eyes, the quarterback situation in Arizona.”

Even though Matt Leinart has been benched and Derek Anderson is now the Arizona Cardinals starting quarterback, he still plans to approach the the preseason the same way he has all along.

Disney and Pixar recently held a launch event for a new online virtual world from Disney Interactive called World of Cars Online. Based on the hit animated Disney/Pixar film Cars, the game gives kids the opportunity to customize their own car and interact and race with characters from the film.

The event itself had no shortage of entertainment and fun as Lightning McQueen, Mater, and Sally were posing for photos along with celebrity guests Cheech Marin and Jenifer Lewis, voices of Ramone and Flo from the film. Also on hand were Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence promoting their new ABC Family show cleverly titled Melissa & Joey. Tori Spelling and family were in attendance along with a few other Hollywood families. An assortment of Disney Channel stars were there as well (none of whom I recognized, see the slideshow below — perhaps you can name them).

After playing around with the game, I spoke with actor Cheech Marin and Pixars Jay Ward about World of Cars Online. Ward is Pixars resident car guru and now in charge of all things Cars-related that the company puts out. He obviously loves his job and is proud of his work.

You can hear more of my interview with Cheech and Ward in episode 281 of the Inside the Magic podcast.

It all took place at a California historical landmark, Bobs Big Boy restaurant in Burbank — a real life example of the 1950s style car hop coffee shop, reminiscent of Radiator Springs Flos V-8 Caf depicted in the Cars movie and virtual world. (If youve never been to Bobs you have to add it to your must visit list the next time youre in Los Angeles. Try the Big Boy w/ fries and the Decadent Hot Fudge Cake with ice cream.)

Black Conservatives Voice Support For Glenn Beck Rally

août 28th, 2010 by marware

Glenn Beck’s “Rally to Restore Honor,” set for Saturday at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, has stirred controversy because of it’s timing (the 47th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech) and its location (the same spot where King delivered that speech).

While plenty of people are also questioning Beck’s motives, some black conservatives have been outspoken in their support.

Alveda King — Martin Luther King’s niece — will participate in the rally. She recently wrote: “When I join Beck and all gathered at the Lincoln Memorial this weekend, I will talk about my Uncle Martin and the America he envisioned. I will talk about honor and character and sacrifice. I will be joined by those who represent the diversity of the human race.”

In this sense, many view the “Restoring Honor” event as a chance to continue the spirit of King’s dream, even if most of the attendees are white.

L. Herman Cain, Alveda KingAsked for his opinion of the rally, Herman Cain, former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza who is considering a run for the GOP presidential nomination in 2012, said, “I think that’s great! I find it amusing that some people would even raise the question [of its appropriateness].”

Others note that Saturday’s gathering is consistent with King’s legacy, which many observers argue was patently conservative, especially his belief that people should be “judged not by the color of their skin, but the content of their character.”

“Doctor King had a reverence for human dignity and freedom,” said Ken Blackwell, a senior fellow at the Family Research Foundation who was also the first African-American elected to a statewide office in Ohio. “He believed that our human rights came from God, that they were not granted from government. Those who go to the Mall to protest the trampling on our human rights and the sovereignty of the individual by big government do so in the finest tradition of Doctor King.”

Other black conservatives pushed back against the notion that anyone — regardless of any race or political ideology — “owns” the legacy of Martin Luther King.

Bob Parks of the Media Research Center, argued that both King and the Lincoln Memorial are icons that belong to all Americans: “Since Dr. King never declared ownership of black people, like liberals [do] today, especially those who denigrate anyone of color who doesn’t think and vote the way they so authorize, I don’t believe he’d be a narcissist and declare that location and date his and his alone.”

As conservative blacks voice support for Beck’s rally, at least one is concerned that blacks may feel pressured to attend the Rev. Al Sharpton’s counter-rally, “Reclaiming the Dream,” which will occur simultaneously. Bishop Harry Jackson, the pastor of Hope Christian Church in Beltsville, Md., who plans to attend Beck’s rally, wrote:

“Rallying with Beck may temporarily bring a backlash of ridicule and rebuke to many of the black civic and religious leaders who join me. Long term, however, the courage of these leaders will point the way and embolden others. Despite any personal discomfort, we feel that it is time to make a real change.”

The fact that Beck’s rally has become a divisive issue is evidence that Dr. King’s dream of a colorblind society has not been fully realized. Yet it’s also abundantly clear that when members of both political parties claim ownership of King’s legacy, the civil rights leader truly belongs to the ages — and that’s a very good thing. You know your ideas have gone mainstream when everyone cites you as a hero.

Those with a liberal political agenda, of course, may fear King’s legacy is being co-opted, but shouldn’t the fact that a white conservative is choosing to honor King — ostensibly, that will be at least part of this rally — be applauded, not condemned?

One hopes that both events serve to unite Americans around Dr. King’s dream, and to put the divisive racial politics of the past behind us.

The Last Exorcism Ending

The Last Exorcism Ending

The mystery in the film Nell or not (Ashley Bell) is in fact possessed by something evil or simply a reaction to psychological trauma. The public knows that the cotton as the main character Marcus (Patrick Fabian), who is there to do exorcism. But in the last 15 minutes everything is back, as revealed by Nell was raped and is pregnant and I do not know who did it. Thus, when cotton and its crew returned the camera to the farm, meet the local implementation of a satanic ritual in the forest.

last demon begins by introducing us to the Rev. Mark Cotton (Patrick Fabian), a cynical evangelist fundamentalist, who, in addition to receiving his followers angry and reach deeper into their pockets every Sunday, exorcism performed on randomly side - a task he believes he is emotional, with which, for example, an engineer-programmer can sometimes see the contract by creating a website for additional funds. Someone should (ie: they believe that their loved one is possessed by a demon), cotton provides services to solve their problems (for example, to exorcise the demons, using various methods as old as the merchants snake oil

As I mentioned in my criticism, the filmmakers tried to do is not give a definitive answer to the public throughout the film to the question of whether Nell was actually owned or through psychological trauma serious. This not knowing keep the film interesting and see the preacher-like exorcist (the name of cotton) to start thinking that this was a case of a mental health problem, but begins to doubt him even as the film went to hearing process. It along the same thought has often been a boring film that is ignored by the people of his late and people have no interest left in the film if just out of the room and found nothing better than a little food. In the case of this film there was no such thing and people have continued to watch the movie as it was full of entertainment. The film is not only good at the end, but it is entertaining throughout your trip
